„Let’s go to Bačvice“ is a famous tune you can hear around the town Split that under that name exist since 1919. Bačvice is a phenomenon of nature located in the heart of the city near the town harbor. The capacity of beach is more than a thousand people. During the spring at the time of ebb tide Bačvice turn to Copacabana of Split. Many famous soccer players first displayed their talent there, rugby in Split was born there and there’s even in wintertime a unique game of “picigin” played (a sort of volleyball, played in the sea shallows with a small ball). Beach Bačvice is a symbol of Split together with symbols like Marjan and promenade by the sea. The beach used to be a place where horses went bathing while farmers washed their barrels before the next grape harvest. The legend says that’s how the place got it’s name.
